Parents/Projects, Etc
By Jaela

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Cathy!

I'm a 2nd year 2nd grade teacher. Last year at parent conference time, I had a parent tell me she didn't think I was as creative as her sister (another 2nd grade teacher at my building) and she wanted her
son to be stimulated more. So after Christmas last year, and again this year, I have a bi-monthly OPTIONAL project that my kids can participate in related to a theme (January is Loving Literature, so anything book related, etc.) Most of my kids participate each time (although this woman's son didn't...of course=) Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I completely understand you taking
this personally. I would too. But hopefully as I teach longer I won't take everything quite so personally.
I did have one idea. You mentioned hating taking tests- maybe you could give your students a choice? They could do this awesome project that you offer, or take a pretty hefty test? That way, kids have the option. There may be some kids that are great test takers, and get nervous presenting their projects, and vice versa. But maybe giving them a choice could be a solution? Or at least some of the time? Just a thought!
