test prep By Keith Dotson

Start each class period with a warm up over a type of problem that will appear on the test. Be aware that there are only 4 or 5 types/kinds of problems. The rest is just the same problem with different information. Make sure everyone knows how to do problems of type A. Work some examples of problems of type B on the board. Assign groups problems to do or assign individuals problems to do on the board. Have some little valentine erasers ready to give as rewards for doing problems on the board. Standardized tests are looking for certain skills the students should possess. Many times it is the same | | problem only with different variables. The same skills are used to solve some problems, but just with using different information; therefore, the work is drastically reduced by only having to focus on solving a few kinds of problems. As closure, review how to take a test: Read each question carefully. Understand each question. Answer the question completely and be sure you are answering what is being asked. Don’t spend too much time on any one problem. Try to work each problem. Work at a balanced pace.
