"Centers"
By Molly

Clip to ScrapBook
You seem to really know your students. Its good you understand some of your students need to have supplementary activities, because often this can be key to maintaining classroom management. I would suggest that you could
try setting up centers around your classroom that students can go to when they finish their work. Such centers could relate to any of the skills you are currently teaching. The one thing I like about using centers is that it is much more motivating for the students of all ages to use than worksheets and it also can be beneficial in reinforcing the skills that you have taught. Additionally,
giving early finishers a worksheet is not an incentive to complete their work. You may find that your students don't work efficiently to avoid getting another worksheet. Centers can be motivating, as it is an oppertunity to do something out of the ordinary in the classroom. You won't have to worry about finding something more for the students to do after they have been working for only a few minutes, because you can set a timer and then have them rotate to the next center. I hope this suggestion helps you avoid the "what do I do now" from your students.
