Too sensitive?
By TennTeacher

Clip to ScrapBook
Today I passed a fellow teacher and her class, and just quickly inquired of her about a student I had last year. She told me that behavior was better, etc, and then proceeded to tell me that he was doing badly on his work,
making poor grades, and then said "He should never have been passed on last year - The other teachers are saying that too. He'll definately have to do 1st grade again." Is it wrong of me to be a little offended by that? This particular child was not here in the beginning of this year, and didn't come back till around December. Basically, that was a whole semester (as well as the summer)
that we don't know what he was doing learning-wise. I also went back and looked at his tests and writing samples that were in his files, and at the end of last year, he was on level with our expecations (which are pretty high.) I just felt I was being unfairly criticized by her. I feel that I work very hard to help my students be successful, and this student in particular was one I had worked with ALOT last year, because he was very far behind when he started school. Any thoughts?
