Sometimes
By Kay

Clip to ScrapBook
I do know many people that got their teaching positions because they knew someone in the district. I also know just as many that did not. When I was looking for my first position, I put in applications with every district
in the Houston and Austin areas. I did not know anyone in any of these districts, but received offers from Houston ISD and Cy-Fair ISD. They loved what I had to say, my portfolio from student teaching, and I had great professional references. The more I thought about it, I did not want to damage my rental history by breaking my lease and decided to decline these positions. Three months
later I was offered a position with Bastrop ISD (Central TX). This was just another district that I had applied and sent my resume to, without knowing anyone. I took this job.

If you are not getting interviews with the districts you want, maybe you aren't being aggressive enough. It is always a good idea to call and speak directly with the principal of the school with the opening or set up an appointment to go in and meet them. They have to know you really want the position before they will call you in for an interview.
