Oh my gosh. Is this madness or what!!??!!?? Well, I have my own philosophy of teaching and have taught the way I believe until now. Our school was on that wonderful "failing" of schools list so we have really had to devise a plan to pull up our reading scores.
For now, I will do what I am told. I am pulling out all the tricks and ideas that I can think of(which I have always been dedicated to my job!!) and documenting everything that I do to help these kids. That is ALL I can do. Some will still have difficulty on the tests, but many do not understand this!

My best friend, who is also a teacher, and I have been discussing this a lot! We have said the exact thing that you stated. We were always taught in college, NOT to teach to the test but that is exactly what we are being asked to do....and IT IS CRAZY!!! It really makes me sad too that soooo much emphasis is put on this one test and that teachers are being labeled "not qualified" etc, etc. What is happening to education...Yes, this is very sad!
