Clip to ScrapBook
Melissa I agree with most of what you posted, but I'm really getting tired of hearing the complaints that minority students and parents are part of the total down fall of our school systems. Yes, I will agree that there are
many children who are in desperate need of guidence and discipline, I feel that is one of our roles as a teacher. Don't get me wrong, I know what teachers in Title 1 schools face everyday because I've been rigth there teaching along beside them for the past 10yrs. Our school is made up of about 52% AA, 46%W, an 2%His. We have students who have server behavior problems, but guess what
they only misbehave for the teachers who have POOR CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT!
My best advice to any teacher just entering a classroom is to assert yourself as the person in charge, who demands respect and who's going too be there for those children. Let's not forget that 95% of these children and their families want to succeed and very well could, if people would stop labeling them by where they live, what their parent do or don't do, and how they've acted in the past.
(please excuse any typos. I miss type when I'm upset)
