Crazy during pull-outs!
By Chicago Teacher

Clip to ScrapBook
My class is pretty good, overall, but I have a couple of boys in my class who are just like you describe: constantly getting in trouble when they leave my room to do things (recess, music, computer, PE, etc.). What I have
done, that is working with these few, is that I have told them that whatever punishment they get from another teacher, they will get the same from me plus whatever I would normally do. So, for example, in my school, a lot of the specials teachers take away recess minutes. If Boy A loses 10 minutes of recess during PE, he will lose that 10 minutes PLUS 10 minutes I assign him - and then
I would talk to the PE teacher to find out what happened and give additional punishment if necessary. I think this has worked for a few reasons: they don't like my punishments, so double punishments are very much a deterent for them; the specials teachers who were getting very frustrated with these boys know my system and understand that I am doing what I can to support them and encourage my class to behave well outside my classroom. I thought I would offer this as a suggestion for you - I'm not sure how it would work for your specific situation.
