Yes . . .

Clip to ScrapBook
Jackie,

I believe you can become a special ed. teacher. I considered myself a shy person throughout high school and had the same concerns as you. I really wanted to be a special ed. teacher since the third grade when
I volunteered in a severe/profound disabilities class. As I entered college I became more confident and my professors helped me to overcome my shyness.

You didn't state if you are receiving help for your anxiety (therapy and/or medication). You can seek the help of a professional such as a psychologist or counselor. Also you may encountered students with social anxiety in your

special ed. classroom and you could truly help them since you know what it is like. Ricky Williams, college football star and NFL player for the Miami Dolphins, has social anxiety disorder and has been receiving help since the beginning of the football season. I couldn't image him having anxiety since he has spoken in front of the press and played in stadiums of thousands of people.

I have been teaching since 1995 and I still get nervous at IEP meetings and when I speak to parents. I am so nervous on the first day of school and when I meet parents at orientation.

I hope I have helped and gave us an update.
