Going through same thing today!

Clip to ScrapBook
I know what you mean! This is my 1st year at 6th grade, came from 7 years in 3rd. My class is very social and lately arguementative. I, too, have tried the things you mention. My V.P. was in 6th for many years and asked
her for an idea. She said she would give her kids 5 min. of "chat time" in between subjects or during transition time. I am going to try this tomorrow. I'll set my timer and after we've worked hard and long I will give them 5 min. to chat quietly. When the timer goes off we will get back to work. If goes well, I may entice them with another "chat time" later in the day.

Another

thing I tried this week is to put a Loss of Points note taped to their desk. We are going on a major 3 day trip to Sonora, CA and students are on a behavior contract. They start with 20 points and lose 5-20 depending on the infraction. One student lost her 5 for attitude day before, but it did not seem to be a big deal. We'll see when she returns the signed note. I can't wait to hear suggestions everyone has. I have been told Spring really hits the 6th graders. This is the tip of the iceberg.
