First off, I am assuming that you are not referring to a day of "open house" where parents are invited to visit the school. If the parent does not have a child in the classroom, I don't think they have a reason to be there.
You may want to bring this issue up to administration, as there may now be legalities involved here.
I teach a self contained special ed class. Because of the governmental directives regarding the new privacy acts, our district is looking at these "visits" as a possible invasion of privacy for the students, especially the special ed students. Besides having parents view a classroom
in action prior to signing paperwork to admit their child or move their child's classroom placement, we would have local college students earning observation hours in our special ed classrooms. The "powers that be" have now decided that this will no longer be allowed, unless each student's family signs a release form that their child may be "observed" by other than certified district personnel. I no longer have to worry about visitors, as I have one family who refused to sign the release. Since I cannot/will not deny this child my teaching services (which would be the result if he's removed from my room during an "observation")my room is no longer open to visitors.
