Clip to ScrapBook
I always try to order a class set when the books are $0.95. Each child gets their own to keep. I teach in a high poverty area of our city and often this is the first book that the child can really call their own. As we
read their book they highlight their favorite parts using a yellow crayon or colored pencil. We use a spider graphic organizer for every discussion that we have. They also have 4 spiders on a page and have to pick 4 characters and then write 8 descriptive words for each character. They have to defend their descriptions by reading the passage from the book. They also make their own voacabulary
lists and spelling lists from the story. At the end of a designated chapter they will choose 5 words each and make a vocabulary map for each word. These will be put together for a class dictionary. I also use it for vocabulary tests and word wall activities. We aslo make our own slops to use measuring and weighing objectives. We measure and weigh peanuts; m & m's; and raisins [both dark and golden]. After measuring and weighing their amounts we combine together and mix. This is served for snack when we watch the movie on the last day. This is by far my most favorite book to teach. My 3rd graders love it!!
