Letting Teachers Go
By Kat

Clip to ScrapBook
At my school admin. may decide not to renew a teacher early in the year. They don't necessarily tell them, but they put the teacher on a growth plan and try to offer support where it is needed. Though once a teacher has
been earmarked as a problem, there seems to be little chance they will remain. I think admin. has to give something like 60 days notice that a teacher will not be renewed for the coming school year. As far as letting a teacher go immediately, there has to be some specific event like breaking the law or putting students in harms way.

If you are having trouble with discipline ask for

help in that area. Observe others, go to workshops, do everything your told to do. Either you will end up keeping your job for your efforts or you will have to find another. At least you can say you may a good faith effort to improve and you may actually become better at classroom discipline. You may have to convince either your current principal or one at a new school. Either way you will have to work at it and be prepared.
You might want to look at your situation as an outsider. What advice would you give yourself? Think of your classroom as a textbook situation. Detach and do what needs to be done to fix it.
