abc's

Clip to ScrapBook
Well, I have had a couple that have difficulty recognizing letters and numbers. What I do is send home packets for additional help. I have an alphabet packet and a number packet.

In the alphabet packet, I have a page
for every letter. It includes the letter, a picture that starts with the letter, and the word of the picture. I instruct the parents to go through every day and ask what the letter is, what sound does it make, and to name the picture.

In the number packet I have a page for every number 1-20, and stars on the bottom of the page to coinside with the number. I instruct the parents

to go through the packet once every day and have the child recognize the number and count the stars.

I also tell the parents to take the staple out and mix up the pages of these packets because the children will know what they are if in the correct order. I guess this is the same principal as flashcards. Some children just need a lot more reinforcement when it comes to recognixing them. Unfortunately...I have had some children who have had these troubles who have gotten diagnosed with a learning disability in a later grade. By this time in the year..I would be really concerned if she is still haveing trouble recognizing letters and numbers.

Good Luck!
