Our "zoo" By Kathy

Had to laugh about the "beta that wouldn't die! I had one that lasted for five years! I don't know how many times we thought that thing was dead before he finally died. (He would be lying on his side and look for the| world like he was dead and then straighten up and swim away!!) I have had hamsters that the children love, but they are incredible escape artists. And it is a pain to have to worry about them over vacations. (Although I have taken mine to my nieces whose mom didn't like rodents, but was willing to have them temporarily. We laughed and said the hamsters were going to summer camp.) As | | far as birds--from my experience I would say, "No!" We had a school auction last year and in a weak moment one of my students talked me into letting them buy 2 doves for our classroom. (I said it was o.k. if someone provided the cage.) They are the messiest little things--feathers just everywhere. And they coo a lot--which the children have gotten used to, but can still be rather distracting when I'm trying to get them to listen. Maybe other birds would be better--I don't know! They would definitely last over the weekend--I have left my animals in the classroom for up to 4 days and they are fine when we get back.
