Our "zoo"
By Kathy

Clip to ScrapBook
Had to laugh about the "beta that wouldn't die! I had one that lasted for five years! I don't know how many times we thought that thing was dead before he finally died. (He would be lying on his side and look for the
world like he was dead and then straighten up and swim away!!)

I have had hamsters that the children love, but they are incredible escape artists. And it is a pain to have to worry about them over vacations. (Although I have taken mine to my nieces whose mom didn't like rodents, but was willing to have them temporarily. We laughed and said the hamsters were going to summer camp.)

As

far as birds--from my experience I would say, "No!" We had a school auction last year and in a weak moment one of my students talked me into letting them buy 2 doves for our classroom. (I said it was o.k. if someone provided the cage.) They are the messiest little things--feathers just everywhere. And they coo a lot--which the children have gotten used to, but can still be rather distracting when I'm trying to get them to listen. Maybe other birds would be better--I don't know!

They would definitely last over the weekend--I have left my animals in the classroom for up to 4 days and they are fine when we get back.
