DC Schools
By ah

Clip to ScrapBook
After 34 years in DCPS, and talking to teachers all over the U.S.-- pick your poison. DC is a typical urban school system. There are good schools and there are bad schools. There are good students and there are bad... same
for teachers and administrators.
My best friend in Montgomery, Ala., small southern city, complains too. Teachers in Oklahoma complain also. The students today have changed and as the commericial says, "this is not your mother's school system or student". You are not going "drill-kill" or lecture these students about a better life. You will have to dig and find some hands-on, life relating
activities to get them to respond.
I have been very happy, overall, in my profession.I realize that I can not move mountains so I do the best I can in my classroom. I chip away one day at a time. Some days my mountain seems overwhelming, and other days, I wish I had 30 more years to give.It is rewarding to know that I touch the future and my students are teaching, practicing law, medicine, making movies, good music, etc.
In short, the program may be a little disjointed but perhaps you're the one to get it together. If you can help one child live a better life... you owe it to yourself and to Washington, DC (especially if you are a resident) to do the best you can.
Welcome!!??
