behavior management plan
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
I'm a former middle school teacher myself. I know that this particular level of kids is the most trying to work with in terms of behavior and attitude. You evidently have some slackers who need to be put in their place!

What I'd do now that we are in a new year:

Give them a handout of your expectations. This includes the offenses that they have they are guilty of, and the consequences thereof. I would definitely make frequent contacts with parents in the situations that you describe. I am hoping that your parents will respond to the grades by making their children improve. Middle school children

seem to be more aware of the consequences of bad grades than elementary children, in my experience. They usually seem to want to have better grades and can be reasoned with more to improve. Have a major talk with them when they return to school about their attitudes, but do it in a "nice" and concerned, caring way. If you come across as caustic, they will act rebellious. You lecture at them, because they are "mature" enough to know better and want to be responsible because they want to "graduate" to high school. Take steps immediately to move any children who are major distractors and clowns to the back of the room in a place where they won't be gratified.

I have been where you're at, so I know exactly what you're talking about.
