Clip to ScrapBook
A few ideas I do during this boring unit....

Talk about matter taking up space ( put water(1/2 full) in a plastic cup;draw a line to show the level. Ask students if they think a table, a chair, a book, is made of matter.
How about a golf ball, what about light Are they made up of matter? Take answers. Ask for predictions with putting a golf ball in the water, then put the ball in. Mark the new level of the water. Remove the ball. Shine a flashlight in the water. Note that light is not matter because it does not take up space.

Talk about solid, liquid, gas. Get a 2 liter (empty) bottle, baking

soda, vineagar, funnel and a balloon. Talk about each (baking soda-solid, vinegar-liquid)Now we are going to make a gas. Put funnel in mouth of balloon. Carefully put baking soda in the balloon (about 1/4 full). Then put the funnel in the mouth of the bottle. Pour in some vinegar (I usually put it up about 2-3 in. from bottom of bottle). Finally stretch balloon over mouth of bottle but don't let the soda fall in yet. Take predictions. Then hold the balloon up so the soda will fall in. The balloon will start to blow up. They LOVE this!!

I have a few more but they are at school.
Have Fun!
