Why I stay
By Doni

Clip to ScrapBook
I asked myself this question just yesterday. It all boils down to the kids. I am in it for them. Yes, I get sick of the micromanagement, the unfunded mandates, the crazy parents, but the kids deserve good teachers, and
I am a good teacher. I got in to the profession to make a difference in the lives of children, and I have. Like everyone else, I have some students who don't like me, and hate school, but for the most part, my students love my class. I love watching them grow and develop new interests and abilities. I love to share new things with them and see that light come on. I really appreciate
those parents who really understand what I am trying to do and who allow me to do it.

I enjoy the kids'. I love their unique personalities, and it is my desire to help them grow into unique individuals who think for themselves. This week was difficult. I had one parent remove her child from my class to home school her. She made a bunch of false allegations to the principal about me. Her child was one of the ones that didn't like me, because I treated her like everyone else, instead of treating her like a perfect princess. I had another parent this week that we had to refer to social services. These things make you want to find another line of work, but I could never leave the kids.
