Behavior By Third grade teacher

Does your building or district have a school psychologist or social worker who could help you? We also have a procedure for PAC (Pupil Assistance Committee) and the classroom teacher refers a child to the committee often| for behaviors you describe. The psychologist or social worker observe the child in the classroom setting, and the committee then meets with the teacher and possibly the parents too, to create a behavior plan. Have you looked back on the records of this child in first grade and kindergarten? It would be interesting to talk to his previous teachers if they're still in your building to find | | out if they saw similar behaviors. Odds are, they did. This child might have some attentional problems, and calling this to the attention of professionals in the building (your principal, psychologist, social worker etc.) will hopefully lead him on the road to help, if further testing is warranted. I would also meet with his parents after documenting incidents of the behaviors you are describing. Often, a child can be this way at home, too. I recently met with the parents of the child who is disruptive in my room and then we met with the child as a group, so he knows his parents and I are on the same page. We explained the behavior plan to him, and hopefully, he will improve his behavior. I agree with you, it is very draining. Good luck to you! I hope you find the support you need.
