Good subs
By Mary Ann

Clip to ScrapBook
I like a sub that follows my plans and briefly lets me know how each lesson went. I want someone who is nice but not afraid to discipline when necessary. I like a sub who leaves my room in the manner that it was found,
clean if it was clean, or the way it was if it was messy. My biggest pet peeve is when the sub leaves a little tiny note saying everything and everyone was great and then the next day I find out that it was sheer chaos all day. Don't be afraid to leave the names of the kids who caused problems for you. I teach 5th grade and some of my kids really know how to work a sub. It is also really
nice when the sub leaves the names of the kids who were really good.

What do the kids like? Believe it or not they like the same things. I have given this topic to my kids as a writing assignment. They want some one who is nice, but not their "friend", someone who is strict, but not mean, someone who teaches the lessons, but will allow them a game if they have earned it.

These are probably things that you already knew. Just the fact that you are seeking our opinions tells us a lot about you. I am sure you are already a "Good Sub." I hope a regular job is just around the corner for you.
