Student Teacher By Andrea

I must agree with many of you. I am currently student teaching and the most important thing for me (being in my 9th week) is that I am left alone most of the time. My cooperating teacher (one of them, there are 3 others)| completely trusts me with her class. She is rarely in the room and I am the teacher. When she is in the room and the students speak to her she says "I'm not in the room, you don't see me." Also, from the first day I stepped into the classroom she referred to everything as "we" or "us" when talking to the students. From the beginning they were taught to respect me as a teacher, not |
| a visitor or a student. She gave me my own desk (a real desk, not a student desk) and put it up front next to hers. On the flip side, I do work with another teacher part of the day who does not leave the room. I have noticed that I am not performing my best when she is there. It makes me feel that she doesn't trust me and that I need to be "monitored". She also adds comments in the middle of my lesson which I believe harms my control and credibility in the classroom. These are just a few things I have experienced in the last 9 weeks. You cooperating teacher truly can turn you on or off to teaching, I know this for a fact. I'm grateful to be turned on.
