Canadian Studies
By Cathy-Dee

Clip to ScrapBook
First of all this is the link to my school's web page - specifically my page with Canadian links. I think you'll find a lot of information there that can help you with your unit.

As
far as things to teach at a grade four level, here are some areas I think would work well with what you are planning.

1) Do a comparison of how our government operates compared to yours? I.E. The name of the parties - how many parties there are, what our leaders are called (provincially, federally),

etc.,

2) Pick sections of Canada to do an overview
- The maritime provinces and Newfoundland.

- Quebec and Ontario

- The western provinces

- The territories

3) Look at multiculturalism - how many different groups live in Canada?

4) Look at 2 or 3 of the different native groups of Canada.

5) Learn the capital cities and provinces/territories.

6) Research our history on why we have two languages in Canada (French and English).

7) Learn about how our flag was designed and learn our national anthem.

8) Find some recipes or foods unique to Canada to actually make and share with the other groups.

Hope this helps

Feel free to email me if you have any questions or if your students do I'd love to help out.
