I did it! By Beth

I too accepted my first job out of college for fear no one else would offer me a job. My first year (2001-2002) was a nightmare! I was unhappy with my district (administration, teachers, the grade level I was at...) I was| miserable. It just wasn't a good fit. I started looking for jobs in January for the following year. Sent out resumes, checked the newspaper and websites... In March I interviewed at another school (where I've been the past 2 years) and accepted the position in April. When I was told I was being rehired at school #1, I told them I would not be coming back the next year... I have found | | a wonderful school district with great people, they didn't seem at all fazed by the fact that I had only 1 year of experience at another school. A friend from college did the same thing... and got a job no problem. We have more experience than someone just out of the classroom. If it's not working, why stay? Why put another year towards your tenure, if you aren't even going to stay there and you aren't happy? I suggest looking for and securing a job before you quit, but get outta there! FYI, in my experience, many teachers are paranoid about losing their jobs or not finding a job... maybe it's leftover from when there was such a surplus of teachers, maybe it's the reason they cling to such a secure job... don't listen to them. Make yourself happy.
