Routine (sorry so long!!!!)
By Sara

Clip to ScrapBook
I teach fourth grade and when they walk into the classroom they know exactly what is to be expected. They have a notebook we use for morning work on their desks and as soon as they unpack, they are expected to start immediately.

They
first do D.O.L (Daily oral language) which is put up on the overhead (cheaper than copying for each student and easy to go over with them for answers). They also have D.O.M. (Daily oral math) that they have on the overhead as well. This reviews all the important math parts on the standardized test.

Then, I have a journal topic that they have to write at least 5 sentences

on. This is something where they use their imagination. Don't buy a book for journal topic ideas...you can get a whole bunch off the internet at one website if you want me to give that to you. With the journal entries, at the end of the day, I read every one and comment about something. They LOVE it! They are so excited when the get in to class the next day to see what I have written. It also helps them write more!

We go over D.O.L and D.O.M as a class when they are done. That way, they try to understand it independently and then they check and correct D.O.L and D.O.M with red pens.

Sorry so long. I really feel this has worked. I am checking homework, paperwork, attendance during this time so I'm not boggled down!
