invisible parent By Annie

I had a similar situation this year. I have a student who is bright when he tries, but he can be a bully, and very destructive. Many attempts were made to contact parents, but we could never get a working home number, work| number or emergency number. All notes that went home were not responded to-- including notes sent by mail. This is a very dangerous situation as this child could have some kind of emergency with no way to reach parents. This child rides the bus so my wonderful, supprtive principal instructed the bus driver that hr was NOT to get on the bus under any circumstance until further notice. | | She also gave the bus driver a note to give the mother informing that her son would not be admitted to school or on the bus until she came to school with him. The bus driver lets his two older brothers on, and when my student attempted to board the bus he is prevented. The oldest brother was given the note and agreed to stay home with kid brother that day, and give mom the note when she got home from work. It took two days, but mom DID make it to school for her conference, and she was not terribly happy about it. My principal doesn't play! LOL This was an extreme situation, but it goes to show there ARE ways to dal with problems. Thank goodness for the big brother! And by the wya this kid's behavior has improved. I suspect that S_ _ _ really does roll downhill.
