Clip to ScrapBook
I teach fifth grade. I can tell you what I do and maybe you can incorporate it to fit with the grade you teach! What I do is sometimes I will give what I call a study topic out. This usually relates to notes we've taken in
social studies. The students go home and study their notes. I give pop quizzes every so often on the study topics. Students have an option to make flashcards at home based on the study topic. If they make them, even if their isn't a pop quiz, they get one extra credit point towards social studies. I find the students who make flashcards do a lot better on the quizzes and final tests because
they are rewriting parts of their notes which helps them remember what they learned. Maybe what you could do is make flashcards mandatory. The students could make flashcards and you could make up games for them to play with their flashcards, or using the questions on the flashcards. They could also use them just for quizzing themselves or a partner. Instead of pop quizzes, you can ask a few questions about what was taught the previous day and randomly select a person to answer the question. That person would get a point (you could record the points in your grade book or on a sheet of paper). They get one point for getting it right and they get a point taken away if they get it wrong. Once a person gets 10, they could get a small piece of candy or a point of extra credit, etc.
