No, you're not crazy for staying. You need to find a support group. Look to see if there is a New Teacher Initiative group available. There are web sites that also help. See if there is a Writing Project in the area. Contact Natioal Writing Project website. There is definitely good people there who will support you and help you get through difficult times.
Stop trying to save the world and solve all the problems in one year.
Choose one project... Forget about the office.Start calling parents, and make them your allies. Pick the worst kid in your class and give him responsibilities. Call him to aside | |
and say look I need you to do this for me...
Give stickers and instant awards... Give some easy tests so that students can have some feelings for success...
Don't grade the paper like a roadmap. Find 4 things to look for... let your rubric determine those 4 things...
Appeal to all talents...
I have Wed. earmarked as News day. They bring the news paper and we talk about the stories...

main idea
personal opinion
how it relates to community or AmericaForget about what you learned in school... The real classroom is very different.
I avoid cliques and the office like it's the plague. Don't need that headache...
When you go home...Decide that after 6, you're closing the book on that chapter until the next day. Go have fun, read a good book, journal.
