leaving teaching By dot

Sorry to hear that you're leaving teaching. I was very unhappy with my teaching position of several years and when my renewal time came up at the end of the year, the principal didn't want to renew my contract. I said that| was fine with me and turned in my resignation (a resignation looks better on a resume than a termination). I was in a quandry as to what to do from there; I really had no desire to teach again. Luckily my husband's gainfully employed & we've never relied on my paycheck to make ends meet, so we weren't desperate. I ended up accepting another teaching position, just before school started, | | and I am as happy as a clam! It's a smaller district with a lower social economic status, so the pay is a lot less, but I'm not stressed and the parents really appreciate what I'm doing. Education is important to them. The families aren't driving around in the latest BMW's & showing up for parent teacher conferences in designer clothes & diamonds & holding me responsible for their child's ill behaviors & lack of motivation. I'm glad I took the opportunity to give teaching another chance, but I understand that everyone has to make a choice. I wish you good luck in finding a new career. Might I suggest seeing if there are companies in your area that deal with educational material or services, in which your teaching skills can be put to use. A career counselor may be able to help you realize all the potential employment opportunities your college education and experience as a teacher may provide. Good Luck!
