Snow Days
By Kathy

Clip to ScrapBook
This has turned into a "snow week" for us--everything is still all iced over and Portland airport has been closed for a couple days now! The forecasters say it's going to warm up soon, but they've been saying that for days
now!!

The problem with snow in these areas that don't get it much is that:

#1 Most of the people don't know how to drive in it. So there can be lots of accidents you wouldn't have in a snowy locale.

#2 It often--as in this time--turns to ice which makes transportation very dangerous. Even a walk to the mailbox is hazardous--and the postman hasn't been here the last two days!

I

can empathize with you down there in Florida. I would have loved to have a couple snow days the nine years I was teaching in southern California!

I've been here in Washington for seven years now and this is the second time we've had snow days since I've been here. When I was in Nashville it seemed like they closed school at the sign of the first snowflake and didn't open again until it was ALL melted!! I remember one January when it seemed we hardly taught two consecutive days the whole month. It wreaked havoc with the curriculum and we were all very glad to get back to school on a regular basis.

I don't know how many snow days we have, but I think we're safe thus far. Hope we don't have to make them up--that's no fun--I remember from my Nashville days!
