AM By shelley

I have been using AM in 3rd grade for the past 6 years. I really like the program. This year we are doing AM the last 30 minutes of the day. If you can train your students to help each other without just telling others| the answers, it really cuts down the number of students waiting for help. I have my students ask at least one person for help before they come to me. When they finish a practice, I let them scan on their own. Our printer is down the hall, so they have to leave the room to get their TOPS report and their next assignment. I then have them staple the TOPS report to the old assignment and | | staple the new practice. Then the student goes over the old practice with me, and I sign it and send it home. If there are too many students waiting in line for me to go over their papers, I just collect their papers and call them back up when I have time. When the students are ready to test on 2 objectives, I print them a test. The students keep their current assignments and scan cards in a folder in their desks. AM does use a lot of paper and printer ink, but I feel that it is well worth it. I teach in Illinois, and our ISAT scores have been excellent in math since we began supplementing with AM. It also gives your higher students a chance to excel, while the lower students can work at their own level. I really do not have any record keeping, since their are good reports that do that for you.
