division rap
By Jo

Clip to ScrapBook
We do the Division Rap

I'm Mrs.__H____(they say Mr. or Miss___) and I'm here to say a division rap and it goes this way.

Divide, multiply, subtract, and bring down
I say, divide, multiply, subtract and bring down.

I'm
Mrs.___H__and I'm on the scene with a division rap that is truly mean

Divide multiply, subtract and bring down
I say, divide, multiply, subtract, and bring down.

Now you can do it wrong or you can do it right, but if you do it wrong, you'll be here all night,

So, divide, multiply, subtract, and bring down.
I say, divide, multiply, subtract, and bring down.

I have them

all snap their fingers with me and allow different ones to do the "rap" sound effects. At first they think it is cheesy, but they really get into it and it is amazing how those steps stick with them if you say it every day.
I also require checking. I give a point for the problem written down correctly, a point for the correct answer, a point for doing the right steps, and one for checking. I also make them put a caret over the number it goes into so they get a check for that.
example: 653 divided by 42--the upside down caret goes over the 5 to show 42 goes into 65 and tells them where to place the first number in the quotient.
By giving 5 points a problem most everyone gets some points and it isn't as devastating to their grade if they make careless mistakes over and over.
