I am certified, have A’s in classroom management, use management in my classes, and still have problems. The students tell me that it is not me but them. From the behavior of the students, I can see that the permanent teacher is having problems; therefore, on all my sub jobs the students always ask if I am going to be the new teacher from now on. If your crummy class is making you look bad, of course you think that they won’t have you back next year. You must start trying out new management strategies like sending positive notes home to parents, building a vine of friendliness, strengthening relationships with the good students, attending and supporting school events, and getting help.
