You could integrate other lessons into this. For example, you could tell them that they are writing about their own life which is called an autobiography and that if someone else was writing about them, it would be a biography.| You could show them examples of biographies and autobiographies, aswell. You could integrate history/geography by having them find out about their nationalities and talking about the culture of those nationalities and they could make maps of where their ancestors came from. They could also make family trees to put in the book. These could be the first few pages of the book, since | | it is before they are born. You could teach them the parts of a book by talking about the title page, dedication page, table of contents, etc. They can put a title, dedication, and table of contents in their book. They can also bring in pictures (or draw their own) to place in the book aswell. I would give them some things to write about (Example, you can tell them to write about their birth, etc., but also let them pick some things, too because you probably have students of different religions and backrounds and that makes things to include in each different. For example, someone might want to talk about their baptism or first communion, but if you have people who aren't a sect, they wouldn't have anything to write about.) I've seen at teacher supply stores hard cover books, some blank, some with designs that need to be covered. You could have each stay bring in the amount of money (they are under 5.00 a piece where I live) and then they cna choose if they want blank covers or the ones with designs on them. Just a few ideas.
