You are a GREAT mom! By Christi

I love the fact that you have gone to so much trouble to be a positive advocate for your son. Not only am I totally jealous of his teachers, but I can see that he will turn out great with such great parents as role models.| I agree with the above statements that some regular education teachers may not take full advantage of your website. One thing I noticed is that you used very technical and profession terms relating to his abilities and disabilities. I am just barely two years out of college myself, and I even had to search my memory for the definitions of some of your terms. (If you don't see them | | everyday, they kind of get pushed to the back of the line!) I teach special education, and, fortunately, had to do intense research on most of the topics you spoke of. However, regular education teachers typically have a very limited amount of education in disabilities, which is usually taught in one introduction to special education class. An idea might be to somewhat define what you are talking about. Also, you may want to give some examples of how the teachers can recognize these traits (ie-he thinks out-of-the-box--sometimes he does adding problems by adding all of the tens and then adding the single numbers...something like that). One other thing I would suggest would be to list anything that past teachers have done with him that has helped or worked well with him. I know I am very responsive to knowing what worked with my students before, and a lot of times I try to use such ideas to teach all of my students. Good luck in the upcoming year, and keep up the good work being such a great mom!
