"Welcome Back to School" bags. Personalize brown paper bags (lunch bags). Attach a poem telling why each of the following items are in the bag. Oriental Trading buy personalized pencils. "Welcome to Mrs. or Mr. _____ 2nd
grade classroom". Another pencil with eraser cheap one is ok --from a dollar store. A couple of bookmarks. I make mine and laminated. Sticker, Roll of Smarties candy.
Poem:
Pencil--Welcome to _________ 2nd grade classroom.
Eraser--We'll all make mistakes and that's ok.
Bookmarks--We'll read lots of great books.
Smarties--This year we will learn a lot.
You can put
anything you want in the bags.
Tape a long style tripod 3 inches high and 7 inches long to each desk, with students name printed on the front and back. (wonderful help for aids, as they come in to help and great for you especially the first few days). Start off with a party serve cupcakes and tell about yourself and show pictures of your family. A wonderful chapter book to read aloud is "Charlotte's Web". We made the spider book, paper mache spiders and hung them down from the ceiling --you will need help to make them (we used liquid starch, one layer of torn newpaper and second layer of brown paper towels, two layers of newspaper works ok --we took ours outside --hung them in a tree to dry. When dry (must be completely dry)painted them black attach according legs. This is a messy project, but worth the extra effort. I made bookmarks and laminated one for each student. Teacher hot glues a string to the top of the spider to hang from the ceiling and hot glue on legs. Have a great year.
