School uniforms
By fiona

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi there, just thought I'd wade in here. In Australia, wearing a school uniform is the norm. As I don't know anything different, I like the fact that we have uniforms. Each school has one colour scheme and it is incorporated
into a dress for the girls,(this is usually in a check with white), trackpants & jumpers for both sexes and a polo shirt and a hat. Most schools have the boys in grey or blue shorts. One poster was mentioning that they have a choice of colours for their uniform, we don't as a rule. We do have "mufti" days, as fund raisers basically, where the children can dress in other clothes. The
chn don't feel like their individuality has been taken away probably because they haven't had anything different. They still are able to impress upon everyone how individual they are, and would do so with or without a uniform.
I agree with the earlier poster complaining about white - someone wasn't thinking when that colour was chosen.
It does make it easier, when on excursions, to keep track on the students from your school, except if another school has the same or similar. It also makes it easier to purchase in that the uniforms are sold not only in local shops but also at the school itself. Most schools also have a clothing/uniform pool where good , second hand uniforms are sold.
I can say, as both a parent and teacher, I am for a uniform as it definitely makes it easier in the mad morniung rush to get my own kids dressed ready as they know what they will be weariung. The only real decision is whether to take the jumper or not. It is also more relaxed now than in my day when in high school we were often given spot ruler checks to ensure the hem was the correct length and not too short!
