I don't think she was saying ANYTHING negative about subs. You missed the whole point of the message. As an educator myself, I understand how frustrating it is when you have workshops with those that do not teach, telling
you what you should/should not be doing. Many do not live in the "real world" as far as understanding the reality of the classroom. Yes, many things sound wonderful and look good on paper, but do NOT work in the classroom. I think what Reading Lady was saying is that she is forced to attend one of these kinds of workshops, when she needs to be in the classroom teaching especially with

tests coming up. I don't care how good a sub is, she/he doesn't know the curriculum and state standards, individual needs/learning styles, etc., etc. of the students. The teachers are the ones that are held accountable and we don't want to miss a teaching/learning opportunity.

WOW! Atleast there is one person who likes boring meetings, and doesn't mind not having a productive day. I think most of us teachers (who love to teach and care about our students) are feeling the "crunch" now that testing is coming up soon. We can't afford to miss a day to get our students ready.

I think Reading Lady's point was that she is being told she has to miss a day, but by golly there needs to be "thoughtful plans" that no matter how good a sub is, can't possibly know what all needs to be accomplished (there are those 'teachable moments' that a teacher will recognize because she is trained and knows the standards, curriculum, etc.)that can't possibly all be covered in sub plans. She is not saying your are incompetent. She just knows that she needs to be in the classroom, especially now.

I don't think she was dogging anyone, so lets not get so defensive.
