    Read Well

I have 18 students and only 3 are experiencing difficult with this program and that is due to severe language delay and speech impairments.
The book says each student needs 30 minutes per day. They are with me for 15 minutes in their reading group (4-6 per group) where we work on the decoding folder and read from the books. THen they go off to their desks and work on comprehension or skill work activities (3-7 minutes. Then they spend 5-7 minutes reading the books on their own and I make them read all the solo stories from all of the books we have read.
This is my first year with this program and the second year our school has used it. My top two reading groups are on Unit 13, then one on Unit 11 and the other on Unit 6 but they also do a computer based program because this is my gropu with the learning difficulties. I anticipate that by June most of my student will be on or past Unit 25.
We do not use the spelling part because it was not purchased. I have heard of it and we are trying to get it.
For the first 10 units I assessed the students after every unit and rarely did i have a student fail a unit. It is easy to spot difficulties before than. Now I assess every 2-3 units as I need it. The students do not see it as a test because the format of the test is familiar to the work they do everyday.
I move at each groups pace. My top two groups move so quickly through the units. Even as the units seem to get harder they do not slow down their pace. I am completing one unit a week now as suppose to one unit every two weeks.
No, i do not use homework sheets. They're homework is just to read everyday and to be read to. I do not let them take the books home either because i want to ensure the skills are
    built correctly.
Yes, I use the comprehension and skill work activities every day as individual seat work immediately following their reading groups. They do 2 a day now. There are 6 to a unit.
Hope this helps. Glad i could help. Aneta
