missing for vacation
By pootscratch

Clip to ScrapBook
Maybe I am off in lalaland but for quite a fewstudents,I feel they willlearn more about the world on a vacation with family than they ever willbeingforced to sit in a tiny desk all day with only minimaltimeto socialize and
movetheir bodies.YesI am allfor education but who says the best way for every child to lean is sitting listeningto a grown up dictate directions on a worksheet. Now somelearning stylesneed this but lets not allassume that they are "getting behindon their learning"simply because they are out of the room. One minute of hands on,in your face , experience is worth athousand sitting in a desk
where half of the class isnt even really focusingon what is bein said,, but rather daydreaming about what they hope to doif they are given recess.Who cares if we have a class of people who are highly educated in traditional settings if we cant tolerate and accept the people who are different from us.You cant teach common sense and tolerance sitting in rows while the teacher gives you hertwo cents worth. what a world we will be forced to live in if we create million book smartpeople who have no idea how to be kind, compassionate people willing to make their communities better. To have the drive to make things better you have to have experienced life first hand not just by textbook.
I have three children 9,11& 13 whom I pulled out of public schools because they have LEARNED howto sitnicely in thedesk while the teacher disciplineda child with taking recess whilehe wiggled uncontrolablein his seat. Now I amfortunate to have them in a school where they go at their own pace( not what the teacher feels is appropriate for the masses) , they have "school" in a grocery store, churches, retirement communities, as well asa traditional classroom. They are aged 5-18 and yes they comefromevery shape form and colorof the rainbow and economic status. It can work and work successfully if the teacher is willingto see each child not just a classfull of students!
Is this for every child?heckno but neither is being in a classroom while being toldhow to learn. I guess I would rather achild leanrhow to be loved and spend time with family experiencing life together when the opportunity arises and learn common things instead of daydreaming while a teacher punishes herself and the students with one more math drill before she heads off to the lounge to destress. hmmmm I think I will go pull my babiesout of school and go to the new art exibit and then go bowling. That would be a PE and art as well as history and we havent evn left tomn!
