Our story
By Sarah

Clip to ScrapBook
My fiance is a refugee from Bosnia. He and his family moved to Germany after his father was released from Serbian custody. When Germany "kicked" Bosnian refugees out of the country, his parents sent him here to his Aunt's
to start a new life. His parents knew that he would only get into trouble in the "new" Bosnia and there was no work or future for him there.
In the meantime, I was living in N. Carolina. I was married to a man who, in the beginning, was prince charming, but our marraige took on a new light when I started college. He was 15 years older than me and became very jealous!!! I'd given
him my whole idenity and got nothing in return...my own fault (obviously). A year after I started school he began to get physically violent and controlling...I knew in October I wanted to leave, but stayed until April trying despirately to save my marraige...I did not see divorce as an option! Eventually, I had to accept that if I did not leave him, I was going to kill him, or be killed by him. I told him in April I wanted a divorce and two weeks later I moved home to Indiana to stay with my mom! My mom introduced me to a friend of hers. One night she and I went out to a local dance club. My mom had to give me $20 just to go out. It was sad, I felt so ugly and run down, I didn't think anyone would ever find me attractive again, and who would want to be with a 22 yr. old divorcee?? That night, I layed eyes on my fiance', he was tall, dark, handsome, Italian looking....gorgeous!! I kept telling the girl I was with how cute he was, but there was no way I was going to go talk to him. At one point in the night, she dissappeared, when I found her again, she was talking to him. I instantly thought she was picking him up, and I got insanely jealous. After a minute I saw him look up at me, and start walking across the dance floor toward me....MY HEART STOPPED!!! He only took my hand and lead me out to the dance floor....with out saying a word, he stole my heart!
It is only now, that hind sight is 20/20 that I can see the plan that was set into motion the night he flew to America. It's so hard to wrap my mind around the fact that we were born on opposite sides of the world, and lived in seperate parts of the country, even in different cities when I moved back to Indiana....and yet, our paths crossed and fate brought us together. You just never know when or where you are going to bump into the "one". My marraige lasted 2 1/2 years and by the end of the first year I hated my husband...on the other hand, my fiance and I have been together 3 years and I love him more now than I did the night I met him! Was it love at first sight? MOST DEFINATELY!! I didn't believe in that crap, but he has made me a believer! I look forward to the next 70 years of my life with him, raising his children, and enjoying the blessing we've been given!
