    Shurley Method

    I've used the Shurley method for spelling...found it a good "rote" method. I've also taught using Direct Instruction & I found them both to be similar in their approach. The Writer's Workshop is the one of choice...I think with careful planning you could use both. Perhaps you could use the skill you're teaching (Shurley Method) & have them apply it in Writer's Workshop.
