I've never used AR but I have heard stories of teachers not allowing their students to read anything but AR books. I think it's important to encourage all reading and it can be difficult to have a variety of AR books, especially in the early years a school has the program. If you decide to get it, just keep in mind everything you are doing now to encourage reading and keep doing those things also.
