what is the house idea

Hi, I was curious how you use the house idea. I teach mine that there is a mother, father, sister and brother and each one is a different person but that they are all made up of the same blood....so you use the same numbers (same blood) but different orders(to show differences). It is a very stereotypical lesson, I know but they seem to understand. I also teach 4th grade..so that might explain it.
