As a non-Indian teacher on a reservation in the midwest, I would suggest against giving themselves a Native American name for that is something extremely important that should be done in a sacred way. If anything, I think talking about how they are named would be more appropriate. I like the book ideas and reading legends. I agree with earlier posts about doing research about the Pow-wow first...the original beliefs about them, the dancing, the singing, the drumming...
