Writing for First Graders
By Susan

Clip to ScrapBook
Mini lessons and shared writing help first graders to learn the writing process. Start small -- labeling pictures they draw -- and then have them sound out and use approximated spelling. Word walls, webs posted in the room (that you've completed with the class) help give children references for spelling correctly. Stand fast on not spelling for them! They'll become more comfortable with approximated spelling when they realize that you aren't going to grade them on their spelling.

Hope this helps!
