Kinder reading

I also have a child who is reading. I told the parents my main goal with him is comprehension. Many of my children come into my class "word-calling" by phoneticizing, which is wonderful, but in order to be put on a reading level they have to pass the comprehension part of the IRI. Does your school use the Accelerated Reader Program? The child reads a book on the leveled book list and then takes a comprehension test on the computer.
