A few years back a doctor told me to increase the amount of zinc in my system when the cold/flu hit my school. So I now take 50 mgs of zinc daily and it does seem to help. Another thing to do is suck on zinc tablets when you feel like something is coming on. I also spray my room frequently with lysol--doorknobs, etc. I am sick, but not as often as I used to be. Hope this helps.
