Ever since I read this this morning, I didn't know! It stumped me! I kept on thinking. I asked my husband (who is like the most religious person I met!) and he said that back in those days in that area people really didn't have last names. So I asked then why is it Judas Escariot? He said they missed translated it and it really was supposed to be Judas of Cariot, Cariot being a small town. I thought that was pretty interesting.
