my kids are from Bosnia, Senegal, Korea, Mexico and the good old USA...I call them lamb chop, sweetie bandito, honey bun, etc...and it cracks them up...they giggle and giggle I wouldn't call that offensive to their culteral diversity when they're giggling....and I think my class is pretty diverse But just watch your back you won't want to be heard calling your sweeties sweetie as the principal is walking in your door....after he's clearly asked you not to!
